Studebaker mansion a multiuse 'home'
BACK IN TIME: THROUGH THE YEARS - PEOPLE AND EVENTS

In the latter part of the 19th century, wealth was measured by ostentation. It was during those years that Clement Studebaker decided to build a new family home.

In 1886, Studebaker spent much of his time studying plans and materials and working with Henry Ives Cobb, one of Chicago's most successful architects. Cobb's work was strongly influenced by Henry Hobson Richardson, and Cobb's design style is often referred to as "Richardson Romanesque."

The intention of Richardson and his followers was to create a mood of security, permanence and stability in their architectural designs. This is apparent when looking at the strong line of Tippecanoe Place -- the mansion that was the home of the Clement Studebaker family. (more follows)
