(9/29/04) STUDEBAKER RADIOS & CD PLAYERS NOW AVAILABLE

A line of Studebaker branded personal electronics has been introduced by Spectra International, www.spectraintl.com/xsp/sb.html. The line of products feature a 50's retro look and are imprinted with a Studebaker script logo.   The company's website shows the complete line that includes: a personal pocket radio; CD player; AM/FM/Weather portable radio; AM/FM/CD stereo "boom box"; and another "boom box" style with a turntable.

Harvey Snitzer, President of the Western Lake Erie Chapter, sent me an email saying that Target had these items available in the Detroit, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio areas.   Subsequently, your Webmaster looked at his neighborhood Target in Woodbury, Minnesota and also found them on the shelf.

Target is selling the pocket radio for $9.99 and the AM/FM/Weather radio for $19.99. The CD Player and the AM/FM/CD "boom box" were priced at $39.99; and the "boom box" with turntable was $79.99. Some of the radios are also being sold on Ebay.

I bought one of the AM/FM/CD radios in black and white.   I also saw the pink and black version on the shelf. The other items were also offered in varying colors. The Target I visited had the items displayed on an end-cap with a nice big "Studebaker" header at the top.

The radio I bought (see pic) was well packed and looks pretty darned cute on the shelf.   The speakers are pretty small so don't expect a lot of bass. This unit also has a clock and built-in alarm clock.   The radio dial has an old-fashioned analog-style knob that I found refreshing.

All in all, they seem to be pretty neat items for the die-hard Studebaker enthusiast and well worth adding them to one's wish list.
