Packard long was one of America's top luxury car producers, but it became financially troubled in the 1950s and its 1955-56 Caribbean convertible was its last glamorous model. Colorful, eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes bought a Caribbean convertible for his future wife, actress Jean Peters, but she reportedly never drove it. Neither did the reclusive Hughes, who drove bland cars. He feared that his white, pink and black Caribbean would draw unwanted attention.
